Loxton / Churchill 6kW mk1 Baffle Brick

This baffle brick fits the Loxton and Churchill 6kW stove, Mk1 model, built before August 2012 (Eurostove's internal reference L/CH-6-M1-Baffle), and weighs approximately 2kg. It's positioned at the top of the firebox as part of the baffle (throat plate) assembly, between the fire and the flue outlet. The baffle brick makes the hot combustion gases travel further across the top of the firebox before they can pass into the flue, rather than exiting by the shortest route. This extra distance gives the gases more time to burn more completely, improving the stove's overall efficiency and reducing how much unburnt material goes up the chimney. It also protects the metal throat plate directly above it, which would otherwise be exposed to the most intense heat rising from the fire. Because of its position directly over the flames, the baffle brick usually wears faster than the bricks lower down in the firebox — cracking, crumbling or sagging after sustained use is normal and expected over the stove's lifetime. Once that damage becomes visible, it's worth replacing the brick promptly, since running the stove with a badly worn baffle brick can let flame reach the throat plate directly.
